ABOUT US

The Central Districts Indian Association Inc. (CDIA) formerly known as the Manawatu-Hawke’s Bay Indian Association (MHBIA) was formed in 1945. We are a non-profit, community based, and volunteer run organisation.

OBJECTIVE

Our main objective is to promote, conserve and advance the interests and welfare of Indians residing in Palmerston North and from the surrounding towns of Wanganui, Dannevirke, Woodville, Marton, Feilding, Bulls, Levin, Foxton and Pahiatua.

CDIA aims to preserve and foster the Indian culture and to provide assistance to any and all Indians.

ADMINISTRATION

The operation of CDIA is carried out by an executive team consisting of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and supported by a number of Committee members who are elected each year.

We have an official Rules and Regulations Document from which the club operates, which can be downloaded here.

CDIA became an Incorporated Society in March 2002.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership entitles members to discounted costs to attend and partake in events and functions, as hosted by CDIA.

Our membership consists of Family member, Single members and 65+ members.

Family Membership consists of a household of members, which may include a spouse or partner and/or their children until they finish their Tertiary Education. Current Family Membership for the 2024 financial year is $30.00 per family per year.

Single Membership consists of a member who seeks sole membership to the club, regardless of whether they are with or without a spouse or partner and/or children. Current Single Membership for the 2024 financial year is $15.00 per person.

65+ Membership applies to a member who has:

              (i)         Reached the age of 65 as of 1st January of the financial year and
(ii)        Been a financial member for a period of 10 or more consecutive years prior to 1st January of the financial  year.

A 65+ member shall be exempted from paying the annual CDIA subscription once that member meets the above criteria.

For a couple when only one spouse or partner qualifies as a 65+ member this exemption of the annual CDIA subscriptions will also apply to the non-qualified spouse or partner.

Exemption of the annual CDIA subscription for a 65+ member does not extend towards the payment of any entry fees and/or costs payable for events hosted by CDIA. If members meet both of the above criteria, please let the committee know so you can be exempted from paying the annual subscription.  Unless members officially inform us that they meet the criteria, normal subscription fees will apply.

AFFILIATIONS

CDIA is affiliated to the New Zealand Indian Central Association Inc. (NZICA). NZICA was first established in 1926 and is the only national Indian organisation in New Zealand set up as an umbrella body for regional Indian community groups throughout New Zealand.

NZICA provides a central channel for Indian communities to voice concerns and together with other member communities join as a collective force. Through this unity we can make a difference for our families and communities.

CDIA has been an affiliated member of the Manawatu Multicultural Centre (MMC) since 1995 making it one of the longest serving member groups.

We also have a close relationship with the Central Districts Indian Sports Club (CDISC), spanning over 30 years. Many CDIA members are also members of CDISC and have assisted them in hosting various sports tournaments in our region.

COMMUNICATIONS

CDIA members are informed of the association’s events and functions by way of regular newsletters which are emailed out nationally and posted locally. Newsletters are also posted in the News Feed section of the website (past newsletters can be found here).

We hope you enjoy this website and learn more about CDIA. Please feel free to contact us with any queries you may have, or if you would like to become a CDIA member. Everyone is welcome and we look forward to having you involved with our organisation!
